OVERVIEW
New to Therapy is a digital resource designed to support individuals recently prescribed medication. The experience is built to educate, reassure, and empower users by combining practical information with emotional support—ultimately promoting medication adherence and improving health outcomes.
CHALLENGE
Starting a new medication—especially for chronic or mental health conditions—can bring uncertainty, fear, and confusion. Users often feel:
- Overwhelmed by medical jargon
- Isolated in their experience
- Unsure about how and when to take their medication
- Distrustful of inconsistent information sources
RESEARCH
We kicked off with research to understand user needs:
- Stakeholder interviews (medical, pharmaceutical)
- 10 in-depth patient interviews
- Competitive analysis of existing adherence tools
- Created personas based on pain points:
- The Anxious Newcomer: Needs reassurance, afraid of side effects
- The Skeptical Self-Starter: Research-driven, seeks control and clarity
Insight: People didn’t just want data—they wanted to feel safe, seen, and in control. Emotional reassurance was just as critical as clinical accuracy.
SOLUTION
We established and followed 3 Pillars for the experience:
- Understand Your Medication — Visual explainers, common FAQs, pharmacist Q&A
- Build a Routine — Habit reminders, dose tracking, guided journaling
- Feel Supported — Peer stories, moderated chat, user-submitted tips
Then designed an experience that personalized content based on medication type & user needs, broke down complex concepts with visual clarity, encouraged long-term engagement without feeling overwhelmed, and provided emotional support through shared stories and access to a supportive community.
Insight: This project reminded us that healthcare UX must prioritize empathy just as much as usability. New to Therapy is more than a product—it’s a support system that helps users feel confident in their treatment journey from day one.
